Almost everything we talk about is confidential: that is, it cannot be released without your specific consent (or the consent of your parent if you are under 18 years old). There are some exceptions to confidentiallity about which you should be aware:
*If there is an immediate danger to yourself or others, I am ethically obligated to take steps to avert this danger. This might include notifying appropriate authorites
*If a child or elderly person has been abused or neglected, I am required by law to report the abuse/neglect to Services to Children and Families or other appropriate agencies. It is my custom to encourage you to report as an indicator that you are willing to take steps to prevent further abuse.
*If your records are subpoenaed or if you testify in court about evaluation or treament, the privileged nature of the communications between us may be compromised
*If a child is in therapy with me, please note that both the custodial and non-custodial parents have access to the treament records of their minor child.
